How to Make a Tutu

Want to learn how to make a tutu? Follow these EASY steps in the photos below to make a beautiful and fluffy, no-sew tutu.

Step 1: Measure the waist size need for your tutu.  Cut a piece of 1.5 inch no-roll elastic to that size.

Step 2: Sew the ends of the elastic together to form a circle.  This is going to be the waistband for your no-sew tutu skirt.

Step 3: Cut your tulle.  You need to cut the tulle strips TWICE the length you want your finished tutu.

Step 4: Take one strip at a time and form an “upside-down” U shape.

Step 5: Place the “upside-down U piece of tulle behind the waistband.

Step 6:  Make sure the ends are even and then put the 2 ends on top of the waistband and through the opening between the top of the tulle U and the waistband.

Step 7: Pull the ends of your tulle through tightly.

Step 8: Continue to add all your tulle pieces until the waistband is full.

Step 9: Slide the tulle pieces together so they are close and no spaces are showing in between them.  Doing this step ensures a really full and fluffy tutu!

Step 10: Stretch out the tutu a bit to be sure all the spots are covered and you cannot see the waistband.  If you need to, add more tulle strips to make it full.

    Thank you for for making the videos on how to make hair bows, (I haven’t tried the tutus yet). I make the hair bows for my 4 yr old Granddaughter and 5 yr old niece (and who ever else asks for one). The girls love the bows, want to learn to make them and watch the vidoes with me.
